Transferring CSV files to MYSQL

Hello Experts,

I have to populate a MYSQL database with CSV files.  The database exists, but I have no idea what it looks like or what tables are in the database or anything.  Actually, I have no idea what the hell to do.  I have many problems with this and I am looking for guidance.  I need to get a listing of the tables in the database, with the field names.  I need to know how to import CSV files into the database tables.  And then, to top it off, I need to test it to see if the data is where it is supposed to be.  I would love to pitch a fit about this software company, but that won't get the job done, so, any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

leakim971,

The CSVs open in Excel.  In terms of the database, I have not tried to open the database yet as I am not sure what to do.  I can see the data in the CSVs just fine, with the column headings, keys, etc.  Hope that answers your question.

check this link : http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2345/import_csv_file_directly_into_mysql/

take in midn a csv file is first a text file, not an excel file format

you can open with the notepad to see what you have inside
leakim971,

Thanks for the tech-recipes.  I was able to populate my table, but I had to match the field names in the csv file to the field names in the mysql table. Is there an easy way to map fields to a my sql table without having to do that cleanup first?  And, should I open another question for this topic and consider this question answered?
