extract file extension

I have a field with a file and need to capture the file extension to rename the file.

eg
Dim varData, varExt
varData = "testdoc.docx"
varExt = ??

How can I do this?

Do you mean this:

mid("testdoc.docx",InStrRev("testdoc.docx",".")+1)
Returns
docx
