Can anyone point me to a simple explanation of how to read and write PPTX files using presentationml?

I am very confused by the ECMA documents on this topic and I am trying to understand what programming interfaces are available to programmatically created PPTX presentations.

I've scoured the web and it keeps point to XML developer site.  Microsoft proclaims that this is open file format, but I only see MS programming languanges that have build-in interface to it.

I am very simple minded and can follow a well documented description, but the ECMA docs are not very friendly to read and understand.

This is not a simple topic.  The file structure is complex.  It would take an experienced developer a good while to try to map all of it's functionality into an easy to use library.  It would take even longer to test the resulting code for compatibility with MS Office.  If I were going to start such a project I would start here:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd926741(v=office.12).aspx

This gives a thorough overview of the structures that can be used in the PPTX file.  You do have to keep returning to the top portion of the tree and digging down into other areas to get to it all.  It includes examples of including different structures.

This is not a small project and, like you, I was not able to find anything easy for it.  You did not mention what language you were interested in finding tools for, that could help in the search too.

Hi, I'll checkout that link you provided.  I think I've already seen that one, but because of your answer, i think the only way to figure this out is to dive in from the top down and do the hard work of research.

I primarily am interested in writing a set of PHP classes to generate or read PPTX files.  I have a feeling it's going to be a long journey and it's probably the reason no one else has a completed PHP project in this arena.

MS hasn't made it easy for anyone outside of using MS tools to utilize this so-called OPEN format.

Not sure what else to do, but to award you the points.  In any event it verified that what I thought was the case, is the case.
