windows 7 is booting to old version of windows 7
Windows 7 is now booting to an old beta version of windows 7. It is pulling the data from over a year ago. I have two hard drives and do not remember which one it is to boot to. I have serveral partitions on each drive.
but you can always use bcdedit to edit the bootloader : http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2014/vista_using_bcdedit_boot_up_options_dual_boot_xp_prof/
Click start- type - msconfig- click the boot tab- delete the unwanted entry and then reboot the computer.

The EasyBCD 2.1 tool http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 will let you fix the problem as simple way as possible. Just point the boot loader to correct Windows.

@noxcho - I downloded the tool and it only can find one windows 7 enterprise on one of the drives. it says windows 7 enterprise recovered.
More into what happened. I was trying to find all my partitions to move some stuff and I opened an old version of partion magic, it said I had a bunch of chains, etc out of sync and did I want to fix them. Once I did I had the problem.
I am missing everything attached to the newer version of Widows 7.

I believe the original setup was like this
Disk 0 - 3 partitions
C: windows 7 (maybe old version)
E: programs installed
F: data - this was mostly old files and stuff
Disk 1 - shows 2 partitions
D: system - 206 meg
Then I have a 465 gig primary partition with no drive letter
when I would boot system before it would list these drives
Disk O -
Disk 1 - System
I would click on Disk 0 and it would boot fine
At this point my main focus if I cant get it to work correctly is to get access to all my data for the past yr and a half. files, docs, pics, etc

Partition Magic???? It is completely incompatible with Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
Do you have valid data on this PC? Get it out of the drives and reinstall Windows. This is the easiest way. Trying to repair what is done by Partition Magic would bring you more and more pain.

I am now doing a new install on a 2 terabyte disk. If I use the new ? instead of MBR will that cause any problems when moving data over
Yes, if the system allows you assigning drive letter then assign it and try to browse. In my experience after using Partition Magic on Vista/Windows 7 the total mess was done.
What do you mean by "if I use the new ? instead of MBR"? Moving data should not be the problem. Problem is to find the data intact.

when installing new disk because of size it gave another option it recommends instead of using MBR format. I used MBR.
Installing all over again, then will do mirrror of the drive as a backup and then assign drive letter and see what happens.

I installed windows 7 on a new hard drive in one partition. I added the drive back that has the 470 gig partion with no drive letter.
when I try and add the drive letter with comp mgmt it gives me error that the disk mgmt console is not up to date. I have tried refreshing with no luck.
it says i need to start and restar but not sure where to do that?

Are you in newly installed Windows or in old one?

I had same error on old one as well

Ok, then try to access the drive without mounting it (mount = assign drive letter). Boot the PC from PartedMagic CD or any other Linux CD where file transferring tool is available and browse the partition. Does it show the data?
Or you can download a copy of Paragon Backup & Recovery 10 Home www.drive-backup.com and try to assign drive letter with its help. Trial version will do what you need.

tried to archive it and got an error messge. am not able to assign a drive letter so far.
when i right click on the partions I ge tan error message to send log files to paragon that the problems may be becauseof an incorrect geometry.
I do see in the smaller partition the various boot records along with the recycle bin, etc
in the other partition without the drive letter I can see all the files and folders.
still trying to figure a way to backup or archive so I can play with it. Any ideas short of sending off the drive to get my folders, files, etc

when I go into the editor it is telling me that the bootmgr is missing bootmgr is compressed
In full scale mode of Backup & recovery in vertical tabs list find Volume Explorer. It is in the middle of the Paragon program window. Browse with it your drive to which you cannot assign drive letter and export data via right click - export - save to another drive.

as i mentioned above I can do this
is there any way to repair it short of sending drive way to get bootmgr fixed

Actually no. Copy out the data and format it. If you are able to read the copied data then you are really lucky. As using Partition Magic causes really severe damage to data.

thanks - one last question before i award points. do you know a ay to pull off microsoft keys on the drive? I dont have my office key.
Unfortunately no. If the license was purchased then you should be able to restore it via microsoft.com
Or if your office was purchase at retail shop then the DVD should have the key on it.
