How to move away from Netbackup but not lose the ability to restore from the bank off old netbackup tapes?

I want to move away from Netbackup but have a 25 month retention policy I have to keep.  Is there anyway to leave Netbackup but not lose the off site storage of Netbackup tapes use?

You can switch the startup mode of the NetBackup services in

      Computer Management->Services and Applications->Services

from 'automatic' to 'disabled', and then install another backup package. Then if you need to restore a NetBackup tape, you stop the other backup package's services and start NetBackup's. This is a bit unorthodox but it works.

If you have the budget, however, it might me better to just stash the Netbackup server along with the tapes and haul it back out when needed.
Don't forget to stop the NetBackup services (or reboot) before installing another backup package :-)

But I would still have to pay for Netbackup licensing?  Is there anyway to restore netbackup tapes with a different software?
