How do you set up an ssl tunnel to a server that is on private lan on linux?

Thanks for those links - very useful. Do you know what has to be configured on the server you are trying to connect to if you want to connect with a username and password. I get /etc/security/access.conf but not sure about what needs to be changed on the ssh config.
