Enterprise Search

Do we need User profile synchronization for enterprise search and people search. We have Enterprise where only search results are returned for site collection administrators not all the other users.I have searched the default content access crawler with sp_search not the admin account so also i could not figure out the problem. Can you please help me.

Only a part of the question is answered do we need user profile sync for enterprise search too..right now site collection administrators are able to view the results the other users are not able to view the results
