HP Laserjet 4000 PCL 5 crashes on Vista workstations

Installed an HP Laserjet 4000 printer to an SBS 2008 server as a shared printer. Clients intermittently experience application crashes when trying to print to the shared printer. Any Ideas on how to resolve this issue without buying a new printer?

Try reinstalling the drivers for this printer on the server, or check online to see if there is a better version of the drivers for this printer as the current drivers may not be compatible with your os.

HP doesn't seem to provide updated drivers for this printer on windows server 2008. All I see is HP Universal Drivers. These drivers also seem to crash with office products.
Was this printer ever working on your network, or did it just stop working? Yes usually the HP universal drivers do the trick but it looks like in your case they don't seem to work for this printer, unless you retry installing the universal drivers again.

The printer was working on sbs 2000 machine then we migrated to sbs 2008.That's when we started having issues printing to 2nd or 3rd drawers. All clients are windows vista. The optional drawers are installed on the server as well as an envelope feeder. I have another server I can install the printer to on the network. The second server is windows 2003 std.

I installed the printer to that second server. I'll have to wait until thats tested by a few users and let you know the outcome.
no problem, I hope it works out for you.
