roaming profile problem

I am implementing romaing profiles and am seeing two weird problems:
1) one user has her fujitsu scanner option screen change available options when she has roaming enabled (even though she is on the same machine she always works on.)  When I removed the profile path from her AD entry, had her log back on, it returned to the normal screen
2) one user (different one) gets "page cannot be displayed" in IE for all websites (closed LAN) when she has roaming enabled.  If I take it off, she can browse again.

They both show the following in userenv.log:
PolicyChangeThread: UpdateUser failed with 1008

Microsoft Legacy OSWindows Server 2003Windows XP

" If I take it off, she can browse again."

Assuming this is also based on creating a new profile, or using the existing one?

Are you 100% sure the profiles are updating to the server?

Any Folder Redirection in use as well?

we redirect "my documents" and "desktop" to a file server.
per our customer, all machines have a vbs that wipes the local copy every time the user logs off.  It is done as a scheduled task set at log off.  Up until now, all users had a customized profile utilizing the "Default User" in Documents and Settings.  We added little things (like an Adobe shortcut, removed the Outlook desktop icon, etc.) so they all had the same view when they logged in (it defaulted to "Default User" since there was no existing profile on C: for the user.

So the answer to the first question is yes, I removed her profile path in ad and had her log off.  The vbs wipes the profile from c:.  When she logs in she goes back to the Default User since her path is gone in AD.

I am sure that the profiles are updating because added bookmarks, pinned apps in the start menu, etc are showing up on the file server under their profile.  Changes to this are also reflected the next time they log off (add a favorite, log off, see it on the server, log back in, remove the favorite, log off, and see that it is now gone on the server

I see other errors in the userenv.log like:
ProcessGPORegistryPolicy: Failed to move archive file to temporary file due to error: 2
and
DeleteProfile: Failed to delete the appmgt dir C:\WINDOWS\System32\appmgt\S-1-5-21etc, error 2

Almost seems like you might need to repush the permissions to the profile directories.....

checked the permissions, they remain as they always have:
The profile folders are on the file servers, replicated to each other, with a Namespace set (\\hulu.net\profiles\hr\magoo or \\hulu.net\profiles\security\ricky)
The share is set to Domain Users Full Control
The Profile folder is set to Domain Users "List Folder/Read Data" "Read Attributes" "Create Folders/Append Data" and "Read Permissions"
The Sub folders (HR, Security) Have Security Groups applied and have the same permissions as the Profile Folder
The user folders have full control for the user account

**Also, new sympton - randomly users and admins get this notice when logging in:
Browser Customizations has (sic) been removed from this computer.  Do you want to clean up your personalized settings for this program?

if you click yes or no, the window pops up again.  Click yes or now and the window in the top left that you see during log in says:
Personalized Settings
Removing Personalized Settings for: Browser Customizations

then your desktop show up

this is killing me!

Going off memory here.....

"Browser Customizations has (sic) been removed from this computer.  Do you want to clean up your personalized settings for this program"

That appears when the browser has been either uninstalled, or rolled back....

Thats often triggered by tricking the OS that a component has been uninstalled.... Value of "IsInstalled" set to a '0'...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\>{26923b43-4d38-484f-9b9e-de460746276c}

Or any of the GUIDS under Active Setup.... Check them....

This fixed the Browser Customization problem.  There were 4 keys that were set to 0.  Two of those keys were for browser customization.  I can remove and readd the error by changing these values to 1. I created a reg file to push via SMS to all clients.  How do I give points for that yet leave the question open for other issues?

THANKS!

Might also help to ask a "Related Question" focusing on these two aspects, as there is no new bodies involved in this thread, only us who have been with you since the get go.....

Then you could close this older one....

thanks for the help - I won't tie you up on this issue any longer.  I am reimaging the machine and hopefully it will resolve itself since there are hundreds of users and this is the only instance of the problem - thanks for everything
