Error installing Windows Identity Foundation on Windows 2008 R2
I am trying to install the prerequisites for SharePoint 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit. ย Since the prerequisite installer is failing, I am setting up all the prerequisites manually, but having trouble with a couple of them, in this case, Windows Identity Foundation.

I have downloaded windows6.1-KB974405-x64, but it gives the following error:
"The update is not applicable to your computer"

I have the .NET framework 3.5.1 installed (installed when adding application server role), and am installing the correct version of WIF for the operating system.

Basically Windows is saying it doesn't need WIF, but SharePoint is saying that it needs WIF to install.

Did you try to run the Prerequisiteinstaller.exe file from the sharepoint cd?

Do you have service pack 1 installed on your server

The prerequisite installer is hanging when trying to set up application server and web server roles. (error log below)

I have downloaded the SP1 for Windows Server 2008 R2, but it says that it can't identify the version of Windows on this computer... and recommends that I use the System Update Readiness Tool, which reports that I am up to date.
