I actually am working on the exact same type of project.  I found this jquery plugin to be extremely helpful

Not really a whole lot to learn. You basically already have your table with your repeat-region right?

Give your table an ID, then you can basically do something like this, after you've included the Jquery library of course:
<script type="text/javascript">
		$(document).ready(function() {
			$('#admin').dataTable( {
				"aaSorting": [[ 4, "desc" ]],
				"sDom": 'Rlfrtip',
				"bStateSave":true,
				"sPaginationType": "full_numbers"
			} );
		} );
		</script>

Open in new window

If you still don't want to do something like that then for highlighting and clicking you can use something like this:
<script type="text/javascript">
		    $(document).ready(function() {
			 $('#admin tr')
			   .addClass('highlight')
			   .end()
			 .click(function(event) {
			   $(this).toggleClass('highlight');
			 });
		    });
		</script>

Open in new window

Just make sure to give your CSS a class of .highlight.  Mine looks like this:
table#admin .highlight td,
table#admin tr.alt.highlight td{background:#FF6;}

Open in new window
