CD/DVD burner connected to MacMini OSX Lion 10.7.1 will not burn DVD

I have this CD/DVD burner connected to MacMini OSX Lion 10.7.1

  Firmware Revision:      1.0f
  Interconnect:      USB
Burn Support:      Yes (Generic Drive Support)
  Profile Path:      None
  Cache:      2048 KB
  Reads DVD:      Yes
  CD-Write:      -R, -RW
  DVD-Write:      -R, -RW, +R, +RW
  Write Strategies:      CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media:      To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose View > Refresh

Attempt to burn DVD+R from name.dmg, copied from name DVD -R returns following:

"Unable to burn 'name.dmg'. (The disc drive didn't respond properly and can't recover or retry.)"

Using TDK DVD+R 1-16X.

Burns OK with iMac (2008 vintage)

What happened?  What drive should I use with MacMini/Lion 10.7.1? Apple $79 SuperDrive not well rated.

Try resetting the PRAM on the Mac by cold booting while holding down the command-option-p-r key combination until you hear the startup chime a third time.

Resetting PRAM did not help, but I learned about PRAM. As I have networked DVD burners (MacBook Pro, PCs). I will go with them.
