stop audio/video advertising
I'm starting to see, on some major websites, you click on a link and an audio/video clip starts up...
You cannot turn it off, you cannot stop it...you have to wait unitl it finishes before you can do other stuff
on the page...
Example...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/04/michele-bachmann-hurricane-earthquake-metaphor_n_948450.html
The actual video is located a page or two down...
Is there any way to stop this stuff...???
It does this on my Win 7 box, but not on my XP box...but I don;t have Flash installed on the XP box...

I had been using the MVPShost file for some time but it was pretty old...so I updated it with the
current hosts file from your link...no joy...still getting the stuff...
Also...I do use IE8...I have Firefox, but I just prefer IE...I guess you use what you get used to...:>)
But I will try Firefox with your add-on and see if that does anything...I'll let you know...

Well...this is a hoot...!!!!
I download the flashblock...it can;'t find Firefox to install...so I open up Firefox...and I have the link open...and I start getting this audio...phone calls of people whos relatives died in the
United 93 crash...pretty much locked computer up...finally drilled down and it was
"Unexpected legacy left by h eero of flight 93" advertisement...
I got problems...and I;m gonna end them with a complete rebuild...
did MBAM and Vipre scan last night...all clean...I had ran HJT about a week or so ago...couldn't find anything there that look suspecious...and this audio/video advertising has been going on
for several months...
Thanx for the help...but I know what I'm gonna do for the rest of the day...

Oh, sorry to hear it didn't work out. I've used that host file with great success for several years already. I have seen the annoying auto-play flash movies and hardly see them anymore after applying that.
I clicked on the link and didn't have any automatic flash movie playing...I am doing this on a different computer without HOST hacking and running Firefox.

Well...if you can't get the auto flash working on the link I sent you...I guess that kinda confirms that I need a rebuild...
Which is no big deal...I've got an Acronis image...somewhere...:)
thanx for you help...

This may be more specific to what you need and therefore work better.
