Placing a module to the left or right of a component page. ( in this instance the Polls Result Page)

Hello Experts,

Unless there is another way around this, I have figured out how to add modules ( such as sub-menus, ads etc to a returned component page such as CB Profiles, UddeIM inboxes, and so on by creating a hidden menu item link to that component and using an alias which I can assign modules to. Perhaps there is another way? If so please let me know.

Anyhow the matter here in this instance, is that I although I seemingly have it all worked out for the Polls Results Page , the "Vote" and "Results Page" still go to a URL that has
www.mydomain.com/COMPONENT/Poll instead of
 www.mydomain.com/Poll
Poll being the alias name I used in the hidden menu.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you in advance.

Yes for SEF, is there another way for different results that I am not aware of?

How do I go about getting the buttons "vote" and "results" go to  the aliased page so that the added modules show. I'm thinking those buttons are hard-coded?

if you use a SEF component try to redirect
www.mydomain.com/COMPONENT/Poll to  www.mydomain.com/Poll
