Android - Which class to use to perform background logging?

Hi,

I'm coding an application that collects different android stats in the background and would like to know what is the best way to implement this, e.g.
- a thread started from an Activity
- a Service started from an Activity
- an AsyncTask started from an Activity

I'd say AsyncTask or Service
