SQL 2000 replication

i have 2 sites
i want to replicate sql data between these 2 sites
so
should i buy some software ?
and should i use a vpn connection or i can handle over internet

MS SQL 2000 has replication out of the box:

You can do replication over the internet but from the security point of view would make more sence to use VPN.
