What sort of support does Java have for serial ports? I heard the javax.comm for Windows was abandoned in 2006. Is it still useable, or can you recommend a 3rd party add-on that will provide serial support for Java?

How about Java serial port support on other platforms? Is javax.comm still active and updated for other platforms:
Google Android
Windows
Linux
Mac
