User exceeded the maximum of 500 objects of type "objtFolder

I have some users using Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2010 who get the following error:
Mail1: Mapi session "/o=<org name>/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=<first-name>.<last-name>" exceeded the maximum of 500 objects of type "objtFolder".

None have anything like 500 so the registry hack to increase the number allowed shouldn't be necessary, especially as only some users are having this problem. How can I find out what's causing Exhange to see hundreds of non-existant folders?

clonyxlro, the article only talks about server 2003 being affected, the mail server is running on Windows Server 2008 SP2. It is also a Hyper-V VM and the Integration Services are up to date so I expect the network adapter driver will be too.

smangogna, the page you linked to talks about the registry hack I mentioned that I shouldn't need. It may alleviate the symptoms but unless the cause of the problem is found it may just hit the new upper limit again later on.
