Good afternoon,

I would like to know how to make a page as a sidebar widget in wordpress.  I have a table that needs to be editable but appears in the sidebar.  I am converting a site to wordpress.  If you look at www.madisonassets.co.zm, you will see the economic indicators.  I need to make that an editable widget, where the admin users just update the values in the table.  I also need to do the same for stock exchange ticker and currency indicators.  Please advise soonest.  Thanks experts, awaiting your response.

Hi kasondeneddy,

WordPress has a pre-defined Text widget that can render HTML, so you could just use that.

That is fine, but I wanted to make it easily editable for the person managing the website.  As in, the widget should be editable like a page. Make sense?

Ah, sorry I misunderstood.

You can use this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/query-posts/

Might have to tweak it slightly, but it works.

Thanks,  any advice on how to actually use this widget to create , say a table in html with values, and make it easily editable in wordpress?  Confused as to how the query posts will actually work.  For example,  I need user to be able to update latest currency indicators..e.g. update dollar rate on a daily basis as well as other currencies.  Hope you understand what I am trying to do.   If you look at www.madisonassets.co.zm, you have a table in the right section, economic indicators...for example.  I need that table editable in wordpress, and it goes in the sidebar in wordpress.

The plugin allows you to create a widget that is based on post content.  You can tweak the widget to make it look at a page if you prefer but a post should be fine for this purpose.

So you create a post with the content you want to display (use HTML mode to generate the tables initially, not the visual editor) and then use the plugin to make it into a widget.  Your users can then edit the post to update the content in the widget.

Hi ,

That seems to have worked, though now I am getting the title and category appearing, and the CSS not rendering...I guess I need to strip the widget, but confused as to how to do so...Can I attach my theme and show you what I am trying to do? Then you can compare with live site? I will also attach the .sql of my wordpress in localhost.
