safenative namespace and kernel32

I converted VB script to VB.NET script and during conversion. I

ImportUtil_upgradedSupport.SafeNative.kernel32.GetPrivateProfileString(m_sSection, m_sKey, m_sDefault, sBuf, CInt(iSize), m_sPath)

what does the above function call do.... I did not understand the concept of safenative namespace and kernal32 module.

what I understood is GetPrivateProfileString removes specified section of string ... but what is safenative and kernel32...

GetPrivateProfileString is API function in kernel32.dll
