Dear EE
we installed an ASP.NET WebApplication in our hosting , our application suppose to access an external Sql Server ( with public ip ), we already do this issue with another hosting and it was working fine, but when we try this with our current hosting in Godaddy , we received the following error:

Server Error in '/' Application.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

the connectionstring that i use was
Data Source=82.205.240.148;Database=OnlineApp;User ID=****;Password=*******;

Note: i used the same Connection string from IIS installed on my Laptop and connect to the SQL Server which is based on another Network and it work Fine.

i tried to create the same data base on our hosting Sql Server , everything work fine.

but, the problem that i need the Sql Server on external Server

Your Urgent Advice is highly appreciated

Best Regards

Godaddy limits access in and out of their servers to preserve the security of the servers.  They are probably much more restrictive than you are on your laptop.  You need to find out what connections are needed so you can ask Godaddy if they allow them.

You error message says 'Named Pipes'.  Is there some reason you are not trying TCP on port 1433?  I ask because that is what I have always used for remote access and I thought it was a requirement.

I don't know that it will help but here are some alternative connection strings: http://www.connectionstrings.com/sql-server-2008

I just talked to Godaddy support and they said they don't block that kind of outgoing access and that it 'should' be just a matter of writing the right script to do it.

I don't have any way to check anything else so you need to click on "Request Attention" above and see if you can find someone else who can.
