My organization went with zero clients because of the patching capability.  You only have to patch the gold image and recompose to all pools and you are done.  with the thin clients you have to patch the clients individually, and if the thin client is a windows based machine, it becomes not only redundant but a little tougher but i do remember when making the decision we decided that the zero clients made far more sense from a patching and management standpoint.
