jdbc.alias understanding

We are putting together a program using server-side java which accessess a database.  The code we have been provided from a third party currently references the old version of the database - names and all. The fields they have provided for the database info are:

jdbc.driver
jdbc.url
jdbc.user
jdbc.password
jdbc.alias

and we are unsure what jdbc.alias does, and as such are unsure of what to change the reference to, so will the purpose of this be?

This is what was accepted in the above link:

It means that you have a datasource which is deployed in your application server, and which has a JNDI name nq, normally if it is a Datasource by default it comes under the JDBC, so it is accessed using JDBC/nq. There is no significance to the abbreviation it is just a name.
