If you look at the items in the queues are they postmaster messages or do they look like spam ? If so check this link out.<br />

Did you do the telnet tests. If the queues grow it means they can not bind to an external smtp source to deliver email.<br />

The last time I saw this issue it was due to a memory leak on a cisco 1800 , all it needed was a restart.

We have 3 exch 2003 servers using 2 smtp connectors. The queues on all 3 exch servers for the smtp, keeps going into retry and the number of items keeps going up. I have restarted the smtp service and that helped for about 1 minute. <br />
Any ideas would be great... Boy I hate exch 2003.......
