suPHP_UserGroup in .htaccess

I get an internal server error when I put this in my .htaccess file.

Is there a way to change the PhpSuExec settings inside an .htaccess file?

Here is the suPHP home page: http://www.suphp.org/Home.html  The FAQ page says something about .htaccess but I believe the answer to your question is no.  I don't believe that the Apache user has the permissions to make those changes.
