Forwarding and replying on Iphone/Ipad doesn't show icon on Desktop Outlook

When replying or forwarding an email in Outlook at the desktop, it puts a small Icon next to it indicating that it had been forwarded or replied to.
When forwarding or replying to an email on the Iphone, it used to put that indicator on the desktop Outlook but doesn't anymore.   Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Is Exchange involved at all?

If it is - you need to have Exchange 2010 for these to sync, otherwise earlier versions won't sync.

Yes Exchange 2007.  I was told that it worked as recently as last week.  Not it doesn't.    I would like to either accept your answer based on an article if you can provide me with a link and/or an explaination of why it did work.
