What is the voltage the alternator is putting out?

ASKER

I don't know that. Guy at advance auto parts unplug the positive terminal from the battery and tell me that your alternator is working otherwise it stops.
Yes, alternator is working, but it could be starting to go.  Check the voltage across the alternator to make sure it's a consistent 12+ volts.

Ok. I crank it today in the morning. Light was blinking for few minutes and than disappear. I remember i had 89 chevy caprice (box)  and one day when i look inside the hood the motor fan was dancing. I take it to the mechanic and he told me the alternator is dying. I drove expedition for like 20 minutes and touch the alternator it was hot but not that hot that i cant touch it. fan was also looks like running normal not like my old box car.
How old of vehicle are we talking about here?

Something in the charging circuit is defective.  Besides major componets look for bad or loose belt, and bad or loose wires.
Weak alternator do you have a tester so you can see the voltage the alternator is giving off?  It could be a weak alternator not charging correctly or it could be charging irregularly.  Does the voltage gauge move when you turn your lights on?

Also.. Diodes?  In my old GM the battery light would come on and flicker with bad diodes (in alternator) even though the charging output voltage was normal .
