I have opened excel spreadsheet worked on it and closed it. today I tried to open it and it gave me a message that it is going to open as Read only document even when I select Edit.
Though in the Sharepoint column[Modified], I can see my name there.

Any idea on how to fix this, and be able to open the document as "Edit" and not read only?

Thanks

jskfan,

You  might need to check if other user is opening the file.

Try to check out the Excel file by following the steps below:

1.Locate the document that you want to check out.
2.Point to the document, click the arrow, and then click Check Out.

If you can't see Check Out option, then other user checked it out.

I figured it out....
I opened the document in read only, then it showed an edit button above the spreadsheet , when I clicked on it, it showed the user who has the document opened.
I called the user he closed the document and I managed to open it in edit mode.
