When trying to back up Windows 2008 server files/folder; no SQL databases present; we receive the following error: The message in the backup utility window says: “the backup of the volume was stopped before the backup started running”

The backup was working before, no changes have been made to the system that I am aware of

Thank you

When you say NO SQL databases present does that include MSDE?
Is this a physical or a virtualised server?
What is recorded in the Application log at the time your backup fails?
