Can I prevent the history from accumulating in Microsoft Picture Manager history

At our office we open attachments a lot and when I open pics it sometimes opens blank and I have to hit the left arrow to see the attachment but if I hit the right it goes through a lot of old pics and even other peoples email signatures. Can I cllear this out and prevent it from accumulating

Try this

http://forums.techarena.in/ms-office-support/47490.htm

if you edit the OIScatalog.cag file there is a line for
each item in your Picture Shortcuts, including the recently browsed.
Just delete the lines you wish to remove. It is a simple XML file with
line entries for each item in your shortcuts.

I tried that. I delete the path lines save the file and then open a pic or attachment and the same problem happens. The I open that file and the deleted lines are back.

Did you try this one?

... I simply created new folders
and copied all my "problem folder" pics to them, and then deleted the the
recently browsed folder(s) in Picture Manager. After that, I simply renamed
them back to their original names. Simple, and no tricky fiddling with file
paths, registry entries etc.

I don't know what you mean by problem folder or folders within it. I should have to copy anything anywhere I don't need anything saved. I can manually save any image I open I just don't want the image history in any viewer I install. Its confuses my employees so when they go to send an attachment they don't know if they are sending that image or all the ones that show up there.

Sorry for the confusion. That post starts with this as the problem below.

His solution was to copy the files to trick Picture Manager and then remove Recently Browsed folders. Then he renamed the new folder he had his pictures in.

Efectively Picture Manager has no history now since it has never used the folder just created. The history it had was for the deleted folders.

There doesn't seem to be an option to turn the history off.

My kids went looking for a certain picture of the family dog and opened up a
slew of directories that now appear in the Recently Browsed section of the
Pictures Shortcut pane in Microsoft Office Picture Manager 2003. How do
clear the list or at least pare it down to the directories I normally use?

One possibility is to create limited Windows accounts for your employees so there would be less history to browse through.

These are company computers with network accounts. They already have seperate user accounts. But is just one user using this PC. or each PC

OK & I assume that the history was built up over a significant period of time. If you use the procedure above then your history will start over.

Not a solution but it may make it better.
