No Design View in VS2008

I'm working remotely on a Terminal Server that has a clean VS2008 install. When I switch to Design Mode, the source view appears not to change. So I thought at first it was just not switching and clicked back to Source View...again nothing changed and the source was not editable. So apparently VS2008 is doing what many windows apps do when they freeze. It's tough to explain, but you have a window open that hangs, and when you drag another window in front of it then move it away there's a phantom of what you just moved. So essentially the Design View in VS now has a static image of whatever window was over it...see the attached image.
Now, I can source edit all day, and everything else seems to be functional. It's just once I click Design View, the editor window 'freezes'. Note the freeze does not affect anything else in VS i.e. Menus, Toolkit etc.
I googled around a bit, similar problems, but not exactly. Likewise the solutions were typical, Disable Add-Ons (did that), apply X hotfix (did that), disable HTML Validation (did that) nothing seems to work on this. Thinking it could be choking on the code itself I created a 'hello world' HTML file and switched to Design View, same outcome.
It's important that I develop the application on that particular server as it is the sole location of the database.

I would love to hear any ideas on this or if there is a solution I'd be greatly appreciative.

Well. When you move to design view it freeze in VS 2008. Sometimes it may take time to load. It could be working after long wait. I faced same kind of issue. We tried below solution and it worked well.

Right click the ASPX page
Click Open with
From the list of options select HTML editor
Set that as default
Restart your VS 2008
Open your page in desing view.. it should be loaded quickly.

Try and see whether it solve your problem.

I thought it might be choking as well, so I made a simple  <html><body>hello world</body></html>
and tried that in design view, still didn't work.
I tried yours above as well, and it still is not functioning. Any more ideas?

Found the Solution here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/webdevtools/archive/2008/10/03/troubleshooting-visual-studion-2008-design-view-hangs-issues.aspx

Turns out that the Microsoft Visual Studio Web Authoring Component had failed to install on that machine. The server is remote so I didn't have installation media handy, but the installer for Web Authoring Tools (WebDesignerCore.exe, WebDesignerCore_KB945140.msp) is included in the VS2008 Shell Redistributable Package SP1 so I installed that and I'm good to go!
