SBS 2003 mermory runs full and server stops responding

Dear experts,

a client uses sbs 2003 with recent updates. Since a couple of weeks the server consumes all physical memory and gets into a state where no service responds anymore.

There is no blue screen, no crashes, just no memory available. Task manager does not show any abnormality that I ever stumbled across.

First it was enough to restart every night by script. No the server runs into that state again at early afternoon after restarting the server at 05:00 am.
After a restart everything looks fine.

A couple of minutes before the server does not respond anymore services like store.exe can not save any new emails etc. Items are received after restart some time 4 times.

All HDs have enough space, DUAL Xeon, no high CPU usage.

Can anyone help troubleshooting?

The server has 4 GB physical memory.

thank you,

Christian.

Hi,

which antivirus software you are using ?

Antivirus-Software was GDATA and was already completly removed with GDATA removal tool. In the current environment no anti virus software is on the server itself. Clients do the job for now.

Store.exe normally takes up that much RAM... but you need to edit the list of columns shown - include Virtual Memory as I suspect that's getting full and the question is, WHAT is filling it? Showing the Virtual Memory columns should give you that information and from their you can better troubleshoot this.

Hi,
check this url:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;867628

I'm looking at the server right now in the "Edit Threshold" dialog
 box, and it says:
 Threshold: store.exe private bytes STORE
 Currently set to 104857600 bytes
 30-day counter average: 605,691,926.51
 Change threshold to: 104857600
