Outlook 2003 connecting to Exchange 2007

I'm going to be installing Exchange 2007, and we have Outlook 2003 on all our machines.

Is it compatible?!!

Yes Outlook 2003 is compatible but you need to enable RPC encryption in each users' mail profile otherwise all your users will get an error saying the folders cannot be opened.

The easiest way to do this for multiple users is via GPO. MS have a KB article. Scroll down to method 3.

In my organisation, we also found that Outlook 2003/2007 will randomly not display any messages in the actively selected folder even though in the folder list the active folder shows that new messages exist. Outlook 2010 appears to work as expected. The solution is to reactivate the active message filter by going to View -> Current View -> (currently selected view) and it will then show all the messages.

Thanks so much for this information. Is this info still applicable to Exchange 2010?

Yes I migrated from Exchange 2003 to 2010 and that's the most significant problem I encountered
