Bad mailbox or permissions in Exchange 2010

I'm hoping you guys can help me out because I'm lost with this. I've tried everything that I could and don't really know the next step. If I've left off any information please let me know and I'll get it to you right away. We are running Exchange 2010 SP1 and Outlook 2007. So here it goes....

We have a shared mailbox that 5-6 users access. Late last week a user started having issues with his Outlook. Then another user and another user. Any time they would send a message (from their mailbox) it would go to the sent items and then disappear after 5 seconds or so. After numerous troubleshooting we took them off cached mode and everything works fine. After looking at the users I realized it had a to be something that they all used and came to this shared mailbox. I brought a user back into cached mode and the issues happened right away again. That is when I started to look at the sync errors and here is what I see.

If I leave their account in cached mode and remove the shared mailbox their Outlook runs as it should. So that is why I'm thinking there is something wrong with the mailbox.

I then went into the shared mailbox (logged into a computer as it) and saw that the users where assigned as delegates. They had been given full permission to the mailbox from the EMC so I removed them as delegates. This was done by some older IT guys in the company. The reason I knew about the delegates is because a user will have issue when trying to move a folder inside the shared mailbox and would get this error "Cannot move the items. Cannot copy this folder because it may contain private items."

Thoughts? Would it be easier to export the mailbox to a PST, delete the entire mailbox and user and then recreate from scratch. Thanks!

Have you tried deleting the ost files from the users machines so when they get put back into cached mode they retry to down load the mailbox? ..

http://www.nanohe.net/blog/2010/01/how-to-delete-offline-folder-ost-file/

if you have already tried that then exporting to a pst and reimporting sounds like a good idea, you could spend hours looking at errors, checking the database on the server but if there is only one mailbox with an issue its probably not worth it.

Hope that helps!

Dave,

Thanks for the input. We've tried recreating the OST file on a couple of computers with no prevail. I'm just going to export the mailbox and then delete it completely. Once recreated, I'm going to every users computer and deleting their link to the mailbox and then will delete their OST. After that I'll let their mailbox reload all the way before I re add the new shared box to see if it helps at all.

I'll keep you updated.

Just wanted to give an update on what was wrong. This shared mailbox had over 500 folders in it which was causing the issue with to many connections. Once we deleted folders everything went back to normal.

This was the fix to the issue as Exchange by default limits the amount of connections unless you want to expand through the registry.
