I was unable to edit recipients of a distribution group, so I disabled it.  Now it no longer appears under Recipient Configuration/Distribution Group.  I tried to re-create it using the same name, and it tells me it alreadt exists.  How can I see this group to re-enable it?

Use the search function in active directory users and computers. You may have somehow moved it into another OU by accident. You can delete from the search tool and recreate however you want.
