In need of a grid for jQuery

I am new to a project which uses jqGrid. But let me tell you the most unique feature of our requirements and please tell me if there is a better grid for this task:

We need to display a small number of rows to the user (less than 100) and provide a checkbox to the left. But each row is sometimes part of a group of rows and the check/uncheck behavior of individual; rows is sometimes related to the checkbox status of other rows. Also, we need to insert images in the checkbox like a dot, for the parent row when rows are grouped.

I assume this is pretty complex behavior and wonder what is the best tool. Free is best but I'd consider a grid with a license to buy if this functionality is out of the box.

Also, there is an Ajax component and we require this to be unobtrusive.

Thanks!

DataTable is the best jQuery grid. I've used it in numerous projects with great success.
