Server Patching Best Practices

We are rolling out a new AD with a new environment, and I am looking for the best method to implement a patching solution to the servers.

I know of WSUS, but isn't there a better product out there? What is being used out there to promote best practice for patching windows 2008 servers?

As WSUS is a Microsoft product that slots into your other application such as SCOM and MOM it is recommended that you use WSUS as this is the preferred Microsoft Patch Solution.

Whats the difference between SCOM and WSUS?

Is WSUS still valid or is there a newer/preferred solution?

Hendrik WieseCommented:
WSUS is still the preferred solution and apologies for my previous comment I mend to say SCCM. WSUS is used to download the updates and SCCM is used to deploy the updates. SCOM is primarily for Monitoring your environment.
