OS Win Srv 2008 R2 x64.   Installing MSSQL Express 2008 R2 with Advanced Services x64

Install completes 90% (SqlEngineDBStartCinfigAction_install_configrc_Cpu64)

 and then returns this error.

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup

------------------------------

The following error has occurred:

Not all privileges or groups referenced are assigned to the caller.

Click 'Retry' to retry the failed action, or click 'Cancel' to cancel this action and continue setup.

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476HYPERLINK "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=50000&ProdVer=10.50.1600.1&EvtType=0xB2652E58%25400xDC80C325"&HYPERLINK

Retry doesn't work and Cancel doesn't close the dialogue box.  The install totally hangs.

The same .exe installs into Win 7 with no problem.  the w/tools version of Express, installed on this same server with out a problem.  I restored a, pre MSSQL install, image of the server before trying to install with Advanced Services.

Looks like a security issue. Did you try to run it with Run as administrator option or disable UAC (User Account Control) on server

Windows update already installed .NET framekwork 4 Client and Extended.  From my rearch MDAC doesn't apply to Window Server 2008 R2.  How do you determine the Windows Installer version (it is not listed in Control Panel\Programs and Features)?  From what I read 4.5 is not compatible with Windows Server 2008 R2 and I cannot find a place to download Installer 5.0.  If you could guide me as to how update the installer that would be very useful.  When I ran SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe as Administrator (see reply to mozcullu) I did get an update installer message before reparing .NET framework, but I can't figure out hwo to update the installer.

mozcullu

I tried running SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe as Administrator.  Prompted to update .NET and installer.  Repaired framework 4 and ran again and got the same call error after getting through 90% of the installation.  If you look in CP\Prog and Feat  most of the Software is installed but the installer is completely hung.  I haven't been able to figure out how to update the installer.

Typo 'From my rearch MDAC' should read 'From my research MDAC'

New installation of Windows Server 2008 R2, ran update several times to get all the updates in.

Micrososft .NET Framework 4 Client Profiles and Extended have been installed by Windows Update.
Ran msiexec /? to see installed version of Windows Installer:  Windows ® Installer. V 5.0.7601.17514

Ran SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe as Administrator.  Replies need
SQL Server 2008 R2 setup requires Microsoft .Net Framework and an updated
     Windows       Installer to be installed.
To enable the >NET Framework Core role, click OK. To exit Setup, click Cancel.

Clicked OK and it proceeds with the installation.  I install everything and use the defaults on everything.

It again hangs 90% through the install with the 'assigned to caller' error message.  The install is hung from that point, pressing neither Retry or Cancel allows the install to proceed.

1.4 G of files have been loaded into the Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server folder tree.

The above attempts were on a Win Srv Enterprise 2008 R2 x64 installation.  I tried it on a Win Srv Standard 2008 R2 x64 installation.  Had the same problem.  Tried it a second time with User Account Control turned off and still had the same problem.

Has anyone been succesful in installing MSSQL EXPESS 2008 R2 with Advanced Services on any edition of Windows Server 2008 R2?  I've esuccessfully installed it on Win 7 and Win Srv 2003.
