exchange 2010 address list conversion

Hi,
I'm in the middle of exchange 2003 to 2010 migration and I'm upto address list conversion step
I've following up the article - http://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/exchange/upgrade-exchange-2003-to-exchange-2010---part-ii/

And I'm not so clear on part whether I would need to run the conversion script on my environment or not
According to the article "If you don’t use any LDAP filtering in your Recipient Policies you can convert the Recipient Policies directly to Email Address Policies" - how do I know whether my 2003 address lists are currently using LDAP filtering or not?

Any damage will be caused if running the script even my 2003 not using LDAP filter?

Also if run the script, do I still need to perform converions using
Get-EmailAddressPolicy | where {$_.RecipientFilterType –eq “Legacy”} |
Set-EmailAddressPolicy –IncludedRecipients AllRecipients

what's the back-out plan if it breaks? can I back up the address lists and restore them if things break?

If you open the exchange 2003 recipient update policy you should be able to find out if you are using a LDAP filter.
This should tell you whether you have ldap query
