Scan Barcode on blackberry and attach a photo

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is an application out there that can scan a bar code then attach a picture to this 'record' and send it via Blackberry Messenger?

The barcode doesn't need to be sent itself but it needs to convert in to the code that is 'behind' the barcode.

My reason is this, we have merchandisers in supermarkets that need to take pictures of blocks, cereal, shampoo, milk etc and I don't want them to type in the code we have but take it from a barcode that we have on all the blocks, just means we don't get errors in typing the code.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best Regards,

Ken

Hi Rob,

Thanks very much for this link, unfortunately we don't have scanners available, what I wanted to do was use the built in camera on the Blackberry to scan the barcode. Is this possible with this software or any other available in the market?

Ken

Hi,

Products such as NeoReader and ScanLife will scan the barcodes (they claim to support all) but I'm not sure the functionality you're after is present.

Hi Rob,

Really appreciate all these links, I'll go through all of them but I think you are right, these may not give me the function I need, most of these present information once the code is scanned but in the application itself, I basically wanted a way to scan a barcode and the text that makes the barcode appear in the app I'm using, i.e. saving a file, adding a comment to a BBM picture message.

I'll keep going through these though and check.

Thanks again,

Ken

Hi,

Once a barcode is scanned, several options are available depending on what was scanned, and how much information was included. Standard vCard contact entries can be used to:
•Save to your address book, making a simple way to add contacts.
•Send an e-mail directly from the scanned image.
•If a BlackBerry PIN is included, you can send a PIN message to that contact.
•Call the person (if multiple numbers are entered, you are given a choice of numbers to call).
 •Browse websites.
 **************** •Send SMS messages ******************

Regards.
