Erros Downloading OAB

Whenever attempting to download the OAB from an Outlook client, I receiving the following error:

Microsoft Office Outlook cannot download your offline address book. The program for the attachment may not have been installed properly or may have been moved or deleted. Reinstall the program in which the attachment was created.

Outlook version: 2007 12.0.6212.1000 SP1
Exchange 2010
OAB version 4 only
Web distribution only

Ran Update-OfflineAddressbook "offline address book"  in EMS
Restarted System Attendant Service on the OAB Generation Server
Ran following command in EMS "Update-FileDistributionService  CASServerName"

OAB directory is still empty

Please perform a manual download of the offline address book. To do this, follow these steps:
1.On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive, and then click Download Address Book.
2.In the Offline Address Book dialog box, make sure that the Download changes since last Send/Receive check box is checked.
3.Click OK.

- Logon to the Exchange Server and Execute the below command in exchange managemnet shell:
Get-OfflineAddressBook | fl

you said you already ran  Update-OfflineAddressbook "offline address book" and it completed without errors

please empty the event log on the server responsible for OAB generation and run it again and then check the event log for any relevant error



you are also saying that "OAB directory is still empty" where did you check this ?

The OAB folder is located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ClientAccess\OAB\e9860392-ccbd-467b-8e53-81f1abc24f87

There is nothing in this directory.

There were two errors when running update-offlineaddressbook

1. OABGen encountered error 80004005 (internal ID 501038d) accessing the public folder database while generating the offline address list for address list '/'.

2. OABGen encountered error 80004005 while cleaning the offline address list public folders under /o=First Organization/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address List.  Please make sure the public folder database is mounted and replicas exist of the offline address list folders.  No offline address lists have been generated.  Please check the event log for more information.

You are correct. Running that script resolved the OAB generation issue. I did find that there were a number of issues on why Outlook clients couldn't get the OAB.

1. Running the public folder scripts from the above URL and the running update-offline address book generated the OAB.xml and other files.
2. Autodiscover was configured incorrectly so Outlook clients weren't even pulling the oab URL.
3. The OAB virtual directory was configured for the path C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ClientAccess\OAB but the OAB files were actually located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ExchangeOAB.

After correcting 1 and 2, I went into IIS and changed the path of the virtual directory to C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ExchangeOAB. I was then able to download the OAB! Whew......
