WordPress Sidebar does not load in IE8

On http://tinyurl.com/5tv8cy5 the sidebar does not load in Internet Explorer 8 at the moment. Any ideas why? I only see one JavaScript error
[11:36:25.864] [jquery.form] terminating; zero elements found by selector @ http://www.dougellis.com/wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7/jquery.form.js?ver=2.52:904

Open in new window

but I doubt that causes the sidebar not to load..

You are right that should not be a problem. Does it load correctly on other browsers?

If it does, then you have an IE8 specific issue and you will have to tweak the page to display in IE8.

I deactivated all widgets that add extra code - Cumulus Tag Cloud and PhotoShelter Gallery Widget and reloaded. No luck
Yes, all is good in Google Chrome, Safari and Firefox

Just checked. Sidebar does load in IE9. Just not in IE7 nor in IE8. W3 validation errors that are there (3), are non related as far as I can see. Still no idea.

I observe this is a common issue with wp and ie. You may want to check out wordpress.org for other similar experiences. They do have some interesting cases with a very wide possible solution.

However, having said that you might want to actually make sure there is no unclosed tag in your code and since this occurs primarily on IE, you need to ensure that the W3C standards are well respected in your HTML. IE is very unforgiving if there is a deviation unlike most modern browsers.

Here is a blog i found that discusses different possibilities that could give you a pointer: http://samdevol.com/wordpress-troubleshooting-what-happened-to-my-sidebar/

Three errors. One related to the open graphs meta tag
<meta property='og:type' content='blog' />

Open in new window

, one related to a < in a JavaScript on line 63
numberdivs = (numberdivs < 0 ? -1 : 1) * Math.floor(Math.abs(numberdivs))

Open in new window

, one related to email used for type which I added for MailChimp and finally one related to a missing alt tag. Only the second one could be related to a missing closing tag.  The jQuery snippet is loaded for Vimeo videos. Do not see where a closing tag is missing at the moment..........

Vimeo was waiting for Shadow Box JS. As it was not found/added IE7/8 and IE9 had issues. IE7/8 would not load the sidebar as they hanged and IE9 would not load the slider properly. All good now.
