how to disable a button in Apex Screen

Hi,

could any body please let me know how can we disable the button in apex screen. In my application develooped using Apex 4.0 has a button and when clicked the button the button should process the logic and disable and should enable when the new session starts.
how to accomplish the same.

use some java script on submit or by some other condition

document.getElementById("YOURBUTTON").disabled = false;

alternatively,  set a condition on the button itself based on a pl/sql block or item value

then set that item as needed
