Development hardware

I'm working in a SW dev' company and we're trying to decide our CPU for our new machines.
Basically we're trying to keep it relativity lowish cost, but still have decent performance.

We develop using Visual Studio 2010 and SQL server 2008.

Is there any way I can get a decent understanding of the current products available on the market and their performance?

We are looking at Code 2 Quad, i-core 3 and i-core 5 atm.

Take a look at http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_value_alltime.html for a comparison of cpu power vs cost.  The i5-2500K is a very good value, and the AMDs are very good if cost is a major consideration.  The AMDs do not perform as well, but their cost is much lower than Intel's.  For only a few people, I would pay the higher price of Intel, but if you're buying hundreds, the AMDs will save a lot of money.
