Playing a DVD with Windows Media Player

Hello,

I'm experiencing a strange situation.  I have a DVD movie.  When I play it with Windows Media Player using administrator credentials (administrator user) I can hear a voice of the characters.  But when I log on using another user that is one of administrator group, I can't hear a voice that a background sound.

What should I do?

Strange problem. Try using the free VLC media player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ and see if you get the same results.

I use another player (PowerDVD) but I get the same results.
It sounds like a codec issue ... the reason I suggested VLC player as it seems to do a better job with codecs than WMP. Not sure about PowerDVD but it is worth a try to install VLC to find out.
" I can't hear a voice that a background sound"? what? you can't hear voices but you can hear the music/background noise? That would be a setting in your surround sound settings. What version of windows you running?

I'm running Windows XP.  I just format my PC but it's still not working.
Could be your sound card. I had same issue on a SB Audigy ZS2 under windows 7 until I updated the drivers. Sounds like a codec issue but since it's a DVD WMP should have the correct codec... but like rbudj said VLC has much better codec compatibility than WMP. What is your speaker configuration? Stereo? 5.1?

Check your speaker config in windows: right click volume by time and go to adjust audio properties. Then go to advanced.

I have to set my 5.1 system to stereo for blueray discs because my old sound card can't handle the blueray audio codec. If I set it to 5.1 I get no center channel so all I hear is music and sound effects, I set it to stereo and then I can hear voices and everything.
I would still like to know the result of installing and using the VLC player. Please download and install.
