what is "qby" ? beginning of code line in Stata

I am trying to understand programming code for a program
I have.
The first line starts with "qby (variable name):  etc.

The variable is a unique ID comprising eg   201110082468 first 8 chars being date

Anybody any idea what "qby" means??
