"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

are you trying to restore to the original machine?

If it's a different box this could be a firmware issue!

Please update your firmware then.

Hi,

do you get any reference code? Check with your HMC (if LPAR) or consult the LED display (if standalone).

It's rather uncommon that an mksysb restoration would hang without any message.

Hopefuly we will get some more info, otherwise this issue is going to become rather difficult to solve.

Hi,

here is the (rather old, yet very useful) NIM A-Z Redbook:

http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg247296.html

Neat stuff from rootvg.net (but sloooow):

http://www.rootvg.net/content/view/431/1/

developerWorks, always useful:

http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/aix/library/au-nim/index.html

And finally the NIM part of the AIX 5.3 Infocenter, the authoritative reference:

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/pseries/v5r3/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.aix.install/doc/insgdrf/nim_intro.htm

Have fun!
