Batch convert image bit depth
Hi
After we compressed our data volume with a special compressing software from Balesio, we realized all the BMP graphics were compressed just as well, but the software changed the bit depth of all this BMP files from 8 bit to 32 bit!!!! Now we are not able anymore to use this BMP's in our special engineering application, because it can handle only 8 bit pictures.
So big question, does anyone know a software we can use in a batch mode to change the bit depth from 32 bit to 8 bit again on all this thousands of BMP files? Tried the "PhotoELF" application, but I can't get it to work in the batch mode.
Thx for all suggestions

hi,
it should work...

did you try the operation manually?
can you post a sample file?

Worked perfectly!
It was a bit tricky to figure out how to keep the existing folder structure and run the batch so it replaces the files, but finally we got it to work and converted all the BMP files back to 8bit.
Thanx alot!

I was surprised that a free tool like IrfanView is giving the option, but after a few tests, it would not change just the color depth of a BMP file. I tested it with the following settings:
But at the end the file has still a 32 bit and not 8 bit color depth.
Any other suggestions?
