Mac OSX 10.5.8 Ethernet Connection not working

I am working on a clients Mac Mini with OSX 10.5.8. The issue is that the ethernet connection will not connect to the internet whilst the airport will connect without issue. The ethernet will connect to our router inhouse, grab an ip address as normal. Network, cables etc are all in working order.
I have tried repairing disk perms. Also deleted the connection and recreated the ethernet.
Lost for ideas, any advice would be great. Thanks

Check the network prefs on the Mac for the ethernet interface to see what the DNS settings are. If necessary, put them in manually. I would suggest using Google's public DNS servers:

8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

no change. the Airport connects to the same router and functions fine, so i dont think it has anything to do with dns, also the ethernet is able to pickup the correct ip settings from the router.

What IP address is the Mac picking up? If it is a 169.x.x.x address, it is not valid.

If it is picking up a valid IP address, see if your browser will take you to http://74.125.226.20

If that takes you to Google, but http://www.google.com does not, then your problem is DNS.
