If someone is logged in through VNC it can cause that black screen problem.<br />

Can you show me your console log messages just before sleep and when a wrong password is entered when the ethernet cable is plugged in, and not plugged in.

I am having some problems with my Snow Leopard\Lioin machines after they got to sleep or screen saver starts. I have them configured to require password after slepp or screen saver begins. Sometimes the users password does not work until the network cable is removed. Sometimes they dont wake at all until i shutthemdown and sometimes i just get the mouse with a black screen.
